Constanta-Trieste pipeline
The 12th conference of foreign ministers from Black
Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) member states took
place in Komotini, Northern Greece, last month during
which trade and energy officials from 12 Black Sea and
Caucasus states pledged to expand ties with the

UN Annan Praises Trans-Afghan Pipeline Plan As Econ Boost

Caspian pipeline plan draws strong protest

Bush's Master Oil Plan
The Bush administration has taken bold steps to
implement this strategy in several far-flung regions of the world. In
the Caspian Sea basin -- said to harbor the second biggest reservoir of
untapped petroleum after the Persian Gulf -- the United States is
building new military bases and providing training to local defense
forces. In Colombia, U.S.-equipped government forces will soon be
guarding the Occidental Petroleum Company's Cano Limon oil pipeline. And
in Venezuela -- America's third largest supplier of oil -- U.S. embassy
personnel reportedly met with leaders of an abortive coup against
President Hugo Chavez.

Two months ago, the White House was deliriously happy with the official
opening of the first new pipeline of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium - a
joint venture including Russia, Kazakhstan, Oman, ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil
and a bunch of other minor players.
